2011 Honda Odyssey an IIHS Top Safety Pick

The 2011 Honda Odyssey has just been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).  To earn the award, a vehicle must receive the top rating of Good in front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. The vehicle also must be equipped with electronic stability control, which is standard on the Odyssey.

Although the Odyssey had already earned top 'good' ratings from the IIHS, the Institute only recently tested the model in its new roof strength test—now a prerequisite for Top Safety Pick status. In that test, the Odyssey’s roof was able to withstand forces of more than five-times the vehicle’s weight.

The latest ratings confirms the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) toughened up crash-safety tests for 2011 in which the Odyssey passed with flying colors.  The Odyssey earned 5-stars in each seating position of all three crash-safety tests, as well as earning a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score earlier this year.

With top-notch safety ratings from both agencies, the 2011 Honda Odyssey could be one of the safest vehicles on the market.
